A bit of real life...

... or how films are written and produced in Hollywood.

Long, long time ago Warners wanted to reboot their Superman franchise and thought Kevin Smith (the guy who wrote Clerks) was the right man to do it. Later the film landed Nick Cage to play the main role and Tim Burton to direct. Allegedly Warners spent over $50 million on development and then suddenly axed the project.

This brilliant Kevin Smith anecdote may give you the answer just why ;-)
